Mac Security

Mac Security helps you manage how Quick Heal Total Security protects files and folders on your Mac. You can customize scan settings, configure Virus Protection, schedule scans, exclude specific files and folders from scanning, and manage quarantined files and backups.

1. Scan Settings

Scan Settings lets you choose how files are scanned and what action Quick Heal Total Security should take when a virus is detected. The default settings provide recommended protection for your Mac. You can customize them if required.

Configuring Scan Settings

To configure Scan Settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open Quick Heal Total Security.
  2. On the Dashboard, click Mac Security.
  3. Click Scan Settings.
  4. Choose a scan type and configure the required options.
  5. Click Save to apply your settings.

Selecting a Scan Type

  • Automatic (Recommended): Uses the recommended scanning settings to provide suitable protection. This is the default option.
  • Advanced: Lets you customize scanning options. When you select Advanced, the Configure button becomes available.

Choosing What Happens When a Virus Is Found

You can select the action Quick Heal Total Security should take when a virus is detected:

  • Repair: Attempts to repair the infected file. If the file cannot be repaired, it is automatically moved to Quarantine.
  • Delete: Deletes the infected file without notifying you.
  • Skip: Takes no action on the infected file.

Backing Up Files Before Taking Action

Enable Backup before taking action if you want Quick Heal Total Security to keep a copy of an infected file before attempting to repair it. You can access backed-up files from the Quarantine & Backup section.

Configuring Advanced Scan Settings

To customize scanning options, select Advanced under Scan type and click Configure. You can then adjust the following settings:

  • Items to be scanned: Select this option to scan for Windows-based malware. It is selected by default.
  • Scan executable files: Scans executable files only.
  • Scan all files: Scans all file types. This may increase the time required to complete a scan.
  • Scan archive files: Enables scanning of files stored in archives, such as ZIP files. You can configure how these files are scanned.

Configuring Archive Scanning

When archive scanning is enabled, you can customize how Quick Heal Total Security handles infected archive files.

  • Quarantine: Moves the infected archive file to Quarantine.
  • Delete: Deletes the archive file containing infected files. A report of the action is available in Reports.
  • Skip: Takes no action on an infected archive file. This is the default option.

You can also configure the following archive scanning options:

  • Archive Scan Level: Sets how deeply the scanner checks files within archives. You can scan up to five levels. The default level is 2. Increasing the level may affect scanning speed.
  • Archive File Types: Choose which archive file types to scan. Use Select All to select all available types or Deselect All to clear the selection.

After the scan is complete, a summary report displays the scan details and actions taken.

  • Turn on after 30 minutes
  • Turn on after 1 hour

5. Quarantine & Backup

Quarantine & Backup helps keep infected or suspicious files isolated from the rest of your system. Files moved to Quarantine are encrypted so they cannot be executed while they remain there.

If you enable the backup option in the scanning settings, Quick Heal Total Security can also keep a copy of an infected file before attempting to repair it. You can manage quarantined files and backups from this section.

Configuring Quarantine & Backup

  1. Open Quick Heal Total Security and click Mac Security on the Dashboard.
  2. Click Quarantine & Backup.
  3. Under Delete files automatically after, use the slider to set how long quarantined and backup files should be retained before automatic removal. The default period is 30 days.

Managing Quarantined Files

You can perform the following actions on files listed in Quarantine:

  • Add File: Manually add a file from your drives or folders to Quarantine.
  • Restore Selected: Restore selected files when required.
  • Submit Selected: Submit selected suspicious files to the Quick Heal Research Lab for analysis.
  • Delete Selected: Delete the selected files from the Quarantine list.
  • Remove All: Remove all files from the Quarantine list.

Submitting a File for Analysis

If you submit a file to the Quick Heal Research Lab, you may be asked to provide your email address and a reason for submission. Choose the reason that best describes the file:

  • Suspicious File: Select this if you believe the file may be responsible for suspicious activity on your Mac.
  • File is un-repairable: Select this if Quick Heal detects a malicious file but cannot repair it.

6. Firewall Protection

Firewall Protection lets you manage key macOS firewall settings directly from Quick Heal Total Security. Use the available settings in the application to configure firewall protection for your Mac.
