Ransomware Protection

Ransomware attackers drop ransomware on your computer that locks up your computer. They leave a message to blackmail you to pay money to let you access your computer.

Ransomware Protection detects such ransomware attacks. This feature backs up data on your computer that you can restore when required. Most of the popularly known documents including tally data are protected.

Your computer may be infected by ransomware in several ways such as:

  • Browsing infected or fake websites.
  • Opening emails or email attachments from phishing attackers.
  • Opening malicious links from websites or social networking sites.
  • Installing fake apps and tools.
  • Playing online games from untrusted sites.

Configuring Ransomware Protection

To configure Ransomware Protection, follow these steps:

  1. Open Quick Heal Total Security.
  2. On the left pane, click Protection> Device Security > Ransomware Protection.
  3. On the Ransomware Protection screen, turn Ransomware Protection on.

Take Data Backup

It is advisable to take periodic backups of your data. If you have not yet taken a backup, we recommend you take a backup.
Click Take Data Backup. You are navigated to the AntiFraud > Backup & Restore > Data Backup. Follow the steps as given here.

Turning off Ransomware Protection

It is highly recommended to keep Ransomware Protection enabled at all times to ensure your system remains secure and protected from potential threats. However, you may disable Ransomware Protection when necessary. While disabled, you can choose from several options to temporarily turn off the feature, with it automatically reactivating after the selected time interval expires.

To turn off Ransomeware Protection, follow these steps.

  1. Open Quick Heal Total Security.
  2. On the left pane, navigate to Protection > Device Security and then click Ransomware Protection. Turn Ransomware Protection off.
  3. A confirmation pop-up appears, prompting you to confirm whether you wish to disable the setting.

  4. Click Yes to proceed with disabling it.
  5. Select one of the following options:
    • Turn on after 15 minutes
    • Turn on after 30 minutes
    • Turn on after 1 hour
    • Turn on after next reboot
  6. To save your settings, click OK.

Note that this change is applicable to Quick Heal v25.2 users and later versions.
